They still are slaves in the sense that they continue to believe all the lies of those who enslaved them. Until they see the Dims are lying to them, and have been lying to them all along, they will remain slaves and be totally unaware of their condition.

The Report from Iron Mountain said that the new society LBJ built was predicated upon a modern and sophisticated form of slavery; the welfare state. I'm sure the report was a fabrication by spiracy theorists, you know, considering the success of the welfare state. Not only did the report recommend a welfare state to keep the poor poor and the slaves enslaved, it recommended an eternal spending program such as a huge, open-ended space program with unattainable goals to "stimulate" and "guide" the economy in the same fashion as the pyramids were built for the pharaohs by the people of Egypt. Something like 1/3 of the able bodied males in Egypt were forced to work on the pyramids at any one time, spend a few months slaving under the sun, and then the next 1/3 would replace them. That's how you'd maintain control of a country as a totalitarian back a few thousand years ago, today you have to somehow make your society love your totalitarianism, or at least disguise it so few of any repute can see it for what it is and point it out.
