    Current project

Nicholson file from Home Depot, finally starting to look decent. Used a 4" angle grinder to do all the cutting, and bevel grinding. And starting with sand paper to polish it. For a handle and sheath Im thinking of eastern red cedar heart wood, or oak. All I currently have on hand. Before that Im going to buy some brass for the habaki, like on Japanese blades to help hold it into the sheath, then maybe a handguard from wrought iron. Unsure if I want the handguard. Its going to be a fighter/kitchen knife lol. Godbless.

nope, just grind slow and be careful not to break the heat treat by heating it up. I hope to eventually make and sell knives to continually fund the fun and upgrade machines.

But aren't files brittle because of their hardness?

Yes, Ive dropped one on dirt and watched it shatter like glass in the package. Hands were full and was trying to get them inside to put them in the oven to temper them down and stepping over dogs that were excited to see me. That was the odd sight of the day, metal broken by dirt.
