To determine the age of the Remington use this - http://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/. For some history try https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_Model_30.

    Hope this helps!

The problem I am having is there are no letter codes with the serial number which contradicts what I am understanding. The Model 30 started production in 1921... same time as the letter date codes. This rifle has no letter date code.

In Canada a lot of firearms that were made pre wwii had no serial numbers or date codes. I am probably not helping at all but maybe it was destined for the Canadian market?

all the info you are looking for is on the barrel. you might have to take it out of it's stock to read them properly.

Had one, can't help on date...shot good after you got used to 2 stage trigger. I remember that it kicked like a stud mule! Traded it for a M70.

Well... I was in contact with Remington Historical. They told me it was a straight model 30 made in 1919. Now I need to put a price on it. Anything special about a 3 digit serial number?
