These can be nice to catch international news, odd broadcasts, and pirate radio. They are also nice in an emergency. They can be kept in a metal box to protect from emp. I have a ham transceiver that works as a receiver, but a small shortwave is cool to have. Amazon has them for cheap- around twenty bucks.
