After messiah Yahshuah's spirit left his body hanging upon that tree, his spirit descended to hell, where he ordered his angels to break the gates of iron that had held in captivity every human soul that had died since creation (save for Enoch and Elija, who are the two witnesses who will testify against the antimessiah and are not dead yet) and set free those souls who were forgiven. Yahshuah then ordered his angels to imprison satan in hell in irons for 1000 years.
This is why messiah told the thief at his side on a torture stake that he would be with him in paradise that day; after he died, that thief carried his cross to the gate of Eden, the angel guarding it asking him who he was and where he came from. The thief told him who he was and that messiah Yahshuah had told him to come here. He was the first soul to enter Eden since Adam and Eve were expelled.
