Revenant actor hospitalized after gun scene goes seriously wrong

Another Moron. I guess he learned the hard way not to fire a blank into his mouth. Somehow I think law abiding gun owners will feel it for this as well.

An actor was hospitalized after an incident involving a firearm on a TV set in Sudbury this past weekend, an Ontario Ministry of Labour spokeswoman has confirmed.

The actor, reportedly 34-year-old Brendan Fletcher from Comox Valley, B.C., was hurt while filming Cardinal, a CTV crime drama, during a scene where he was to take a discharge from a firearm into his mouth, according to a report received by the ministry, which is investigating the incident.

Many years ago there was an actor killed who put a pistol with a blank in it to his head. Shattered his skull.

Also there's the Brandon Lee incident.

The Vancouver Province newspaper identified the actor as Fletcher, an actor with nearly two decades of experience, who recently appeared the Oscar-winning film The Revenant, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

For Gods sake don't let him own a real gun. Irresponsible and careless.

That was John Erik Hexum and he was horseplaying with a loaded .44 magnum revolver with a hot blank in it. Apparently he thought it was NOT loaded (stupid thing to do) when he put it to his temple and pulled the trigger to prank someone nearby.

Brandon Lee wasn't technically killed by a blank. A blank DID expel a real bullet into him. Someone dry fired a squib load (misfire) with a real bullet that lodged the bullet into the barrel ... and NO BODY checked the fucking gun before they handed it out and put a full load blank into it. Michael Massee DID fire it off axis, but the deformed round hit Lee in the gut and shattered his spinal cord. That's why no one with no firearms experience should ever handle a gun on a movie set without a skilled person present (the movie production had sent the gun expert HOME for the night stating that all scenes with guns were done with, but instead decided at 4:00 am to film a scene with a blank with no one who was an expert on set.

Sorry, didn't read the article before posting. They did mention both Hexum AND lee in it. But I still can't picture how the guy took a blank into the mouth, or HOW any film crew thought it was a good idea to film it in such a way that he could get hurt.

Jon-Erik Hexum was the actor. It was a 44 mag. revolver. He thought he was being funny, instead he killed himself. All those big bright flashy gasses from theatrical blanks went into his skull and juiced his gray matter.

Oops, hadn't read the full thread. I see Tank Monkey has filled in these stories already.

Anyone putting the muzzle of any firearm into their mouth deserves what they get.

A fundamental firearm safety rule: The gun is ALWAYS loaded... treat it as such.

I wonder why they did this at all? CGI would have been safe and probably more dramatic.

Another tragedy... brought to you by the movie hypocrites who make money off images of gun violence and unsafe firearms handling, then turn around and complain that WE (who KNOW how to handle them safely) should not have them.

No CGI when he did this, it didn't exist in 1984 to that degree for a TV show.

so Krupski thinks that CGI existed in 1984. Gotta be that alternate "Terminator" Timeline

I think Krupski was talking about the recent "revenant" incident.

If so then, correct, CGI would have been much safer, but the article sucks in that we don't know the specifics of why type of shot it was and why it was filmed that particular way.
