I heard about this on the radio last week. Fool was only 30 yards away they said. As we (with working brains) know he should of been 150 to 200 yards away.

3lbs non frag producing (no lawn mower, just the plastic tub) 475ft for a planned detonation.

For what he had going on, 1500 ft for max frag distance.

I usually shoot 1 lb jars at a time, and from at least 100 yards away.

On the rare occasion that I feel like being crazy and blow up 10 lbs or so in one shot, I set it up at least 250 yards away and use my car as a shield (I watch through the windows... but usually setup a camera much closer).

I once had a small Canon point-n-shoot digital camera that I setup on a tripod to take a movie of a 5 lb blast. When it was done and I went to get the camera, the tripod was knocked over. No big deal. Then I took a good look at it. There was a rather clean hole blasted clear through it, from the front diagonally to the rear. The projectile (whatever it was) blew right through the batteries and their shredded tops of their bodies were stuck in the camera, smoking slightly.

Thankfully the SD card wasn't damaged and I got the video (although the video didn't reveal what blew up the camera).

If that shrapnel thing hit me, I'm sure it would have penetrated, and probably quite deep - enough to send me to the hospital.

Tannerite is loads of fun, but it's an explosive and must be handled as carefully as any loaded firearm.

Suing for what? A defective product? It's supposed to blow up... and it did.

Speaking of lawsuits, have any of you guys had the incessant TV ads for drugs, followed by ads for attorneys?

It's so stupid it's almost comical...

"Can't get it up? Ask your doctor about ErectoGel (Hydronium Hydroxide Hydrocloride USP 2% Topical Solution). ErectoGel works by targeting specific sites on your weenie. Some people may experience dizziness, dry eyes, limp dick and homosexual tendencies. Stop taking ErectoGel right away if you experience any of these symptoms, as they may be signs of a life threatening condition. Come on! Live life to it's fullest! Ask your doctor about ErectoGel TODAY! Free twin bathtubs for you and your "partner" are available for a limited time. Act NOW! (if you are unable to afford ErectoGel, Drugs-R-Us may be able to help. If you have Medicaid part a, b, c, d or Medicare, you may be entitled to a discount on your prescription. offer void wherever 0bamaCare is offered)"

Then next commercial "If you or a loved one took ErectoGel and suffered an erection lasting for more than 10 minutes or if your loved one has passed, you may be entitled to a cash award. The makers of ErectoGel have set aside billions to handle claims against their product. To see if you qualify, contact the law offices of Dewey, Cheatham and Howe. Call now! (non attorney spokesman - past awards do not guarantee future results - not available in every state - void where prohibited)"

    GOD I HATE THOSE ADS!!!!!!

This post is useless without video!

ETA: I also shoot the stuff from time to time. On occasion up to 5 pounds. For a nice finale. But unlike this idiot, I don't use it to blow shit up so as to avoid creating g shrapnel. If you choose to exercise your right to be stupid and you have to blow up a lawn mower, car, or whatever, at least think about how far that shrapnel can travel and put some fucking distance between yourself and the object you are destroying. We don't need the BATFE down the rest of our necks and changing the regulations because some reckless idiots maimed or killed themselves and fucked it up for the rest of us.

My recommendation when using something like tannerite , never ever put it in something that will create frag, also be aware of secondary frag that can be created when placing it on the ground, such as rocks, other targets. remeber explosions happen in a circle so all distances are for a cleared radius.

A good way to measure how far you need to be away is to use the following formula. (cube root of the amount of explosives in lbs x 328 ft).
example: if using 8 lbs of tannerite in a plastic container, with no metal hardware, (cube root of 8) x 328ft = 656ft
1 lbs would be 328 ft.

This is just for blast effect, this does not take into effect any shrapnel for which distances could be much greater. I definitely recommend frontal and if available overhead protection to protect from possible secondary frag.

I also seen FPSRussia had a pretty close call. Kept his composure like a fucking pro though. But I thought he had more brains than this:

The jam shoulda been taken as a hint from above.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"
