Mississippi Bill Would Let Churches Create Armed Security Squads

The Mississippi Senate just passed a bill that would allow churches to train members to carry guns and act as security guards during religious services — and exempt them from legal action if they use their weapons.

“This will allow a church to have a sergeant-at-arms to protect the church body, just like we have (in the Legislature),” Sean Tindell, a Republican state senator, was quoted as saying by the Clarion-Ledger.

Tindell pointed to last year’s massacre at a church in Charleston, South Carolina as an example of why churches need an armed guard.

Two, why is this even an issue? Why does a church need anyones permission for the 2nd amendment?

    Three, about damn time.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"

Why would they need a law passed to do that?

I've often thought they should have armed security. You never know when a crazy f'er or Muslim (same thing really) is going to show up to do evil.

some states have laws against guns in churches. that to me is a 1st amendment issue. the church should make that decision, not the state.

Agreed. I don't see why a "bill" or a "law" is needed. The church is a private institution. I would think that if the congregation was OK with it, they would simply ask a CCW to volunteer for guard duty.

Don't need "permission" to protect one's self or others.

I carry EVERYWHERE except at my job (state university). The school is a "gun free victim zone".
