"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"
Years ago, there was a quote attributed to a certain SF author. I don't remember if it was Heinlein, Asimov, or somebody else, but they had a good quote about "wars".
They said that the last three wars would be over energy (we MAY have already had this one!), the next would be over arable land (farmland), and the final war would be over potable water.
“I have little patience with people who take the Bill of Rights for granted. The Bill of Rights, contained in the first ten amendments to the Constitution, is every American’s guarantee of freedom.” - - President Harry S. Truman, “Years of Trial and Hope”
As Machiavelli once said it is better to be feared than loved. With this concept in mind, it might be about time for an enemy of the U.S. to get the Hiroshima/Nagasaki treatment. Thinking about a country with a lot of sand Trinitite comes to mind.
Saudi Press: U.S. Blew Up World Trade Center To Create ‘War On Terror’
The article, written by Saudi legal expert Katib al-Shammari and translated by MEMRI, claims that American threats to expose documents that prove Saudi involvement in the attacks are part of a long-standing U.S. policy that he calls “victory by means of archives.”
Al-Shammari claims that the U.S. chooses to keep some cards close to its chest in order to use them at a later date. One example is choosing not to invade Iraq in the 1990s and keeping its leader, Saddam Hussein, alive to use as “a bargaining chip” against other Gulf States. Only once Shi’ism threatened to sweep the region did America act to get rid of Hussein “since they no longer saw him as an ace up their sleeve.”

The fact that some 19 of the 911 perps were Saudi surely doesn't have any bearing on this. Also, no one seems to remember that the head of Pakistans ISI sent a hundred grand or whatever amount it was to the 911 guys shortly before their attack.

Looks like China is about to pull the trigger on the world economy.
"Nobody rings a bell at the top of the credit supercycle, to misuse an old adage. Except that this time somebody very powerful in China has done exactly that.
China watchers are still struggling to identify the author of an electrifying article in the People's Daily that declares war on debt and the "fantasy" of perpetual stimulus.
Written in a imperial tone, it commands China to break its addiction to credit and take its punishment before matters spiral out of control. If that means bankruptcies must run their course, so be it."

The last time china tanked, a few months ago, the chicoms made it illegal to sell certain stock and bailed out to the tune of billions of yuan. If China's economy tanks again and the chicoms let it fall as the above article suggests, that will ripple around the world, taking the rest of the economies with it to some degree.
