    Got a little further

Only working in the morning's till it gets too hot up there
Staircase is in now so I have way better access

Smaller opening which is easier to close off with insulation tacked up temporarily

I've added foil faced rigid insulation to the walls and foil faced bubble wrap to the ceiling over the batt insulation

Won't be able to tell how effective it is until the whole space is enclosed but the wall surface seems much cooler to the touch than before I put it in
I've also got the beams fabricated, in place and have gotten the weight of the roof off the floor

I did get some help from my neighbor's sons to put the beams in.
They're in high school football and wrestling and made it look real easy
Twenty bucks for five minutes work, I should be able to get them to help again

Framing some walls is up next

    Thanks man,
BTW, while doing this I've been remembering the thread when you where building your place
You tried those I guess skylights
Not really skylights more like flexible tubes that you could direct
I was wondering how those held up for you
Not crazy about putting holes in the roof but the space could use a little added sunlight

    Well if you insist
    as of today

    That's a little over a month only a few hours a day
There's actually a wall behind the walls. I'm trying to create an air space all around

That should give me a fairly good thermal block and enough room for them to run their ducts or hoses
I hope so it's been a lot of work

    Still a ways to go

but it's starting to take shape

Installed a header which seems to be supporting the roof just fine

I think I'm going to leave the center rafter just for looks.
Cleaned up and finished I think it will set it off nice along with some other existing supports

Here's what will be the bathroom

Across the hall is a walk in closet. The doorway is just to the left

I've got to get the electrician back to run some wire then I can start the drywall
Furnace guy is working on a plan.
It's getting cooler now so it wont be long I hope

    End of year update

For those of you holding your breath for the next installment, you can exhale now
Furnace and ductwork is in, wiring is in but not hooked up, drywall is up and mudded
I'm the first to admit I'm not a professional. If I was a better drywaller there would be less mudding
If I was better at mudding there would be less sanding
but I'm not so here's where I'm at

Best angles I can get now to match where I started from

This is looking through the bathroom door to where the vanity will be placed

and here is the closet. Kind of tough to get a good angle but for the record

Just went though the checkbook and seem to be into it for a little over 2,700.00 not counting the furnace
I wound up having to replace the central air to accommodate the new square footage.
There was a lot of new ductwork which added quite a bit to cost but was well worth it to me turned out great
Can't wait to get it painted and on to the plumbing

    Nice going Otto!
With the heat on and the cold weather here, this will be a good time to get the paint on before fixtures and furniture is in place.
    Good luck!

OK so it's been two years and I'm still not done
    A contractor I'm not
The floor has finally gotten installed, finished today, so wanted to show it off a little
It's a glue down vinyl and with the rough existing boards prep took twice as long as they thought

    Next comes the plumbing
I've been working on the plan with a local guy but trying to schedule is a pain
I have the vanity but need to notch it out on the bottom to clear the beam
    It goes here

Also have the shower kit and toilet and have the demo done back on the first floor

Once connected I can start on the old bathroom and still have a working one
That may be another two years but who knows

Thanks I'm trying to match the rest of the house
It will be 100 years old next year
Scaled down a little for the room
Stripped down a matching door I found in the barn. Kind of warped but worked
Ran out of the hinges so made my own out of luan
Painted it's close enough to the casual glance

Looking a lot better in the "after" pics then "before".

I've been in my 1893 Victorian house for 26 years now and it's still a work in progress. Just this past July the wife & I slept on an air mattress in the living room for a month while we had the upstairs bedrooms re-plastered. BIG freaking mess.

I guess when you're finally done then it's time to move.

You do nice work. That flooring in the bathroom looks almost exactly like what I just put in my lower bathroom, vinyl planking over a heated electric pad, the third and fourth levels are on concrete in MN, you can imagine how it's a refrigerator down here in the winter, but nice in the summer!

Split level house not real big LOL, basement is tiny. I think overall with the 3 car garage I converted to a rec room maybe 2000 square ft or so. Maybe a bit more but not a mansion for sure and my back and knees will curse us for having this house built in 95 instead of a ranch type home.

Otto, not sure what's going on but, if you posted pictures in Post #28, they aren't loading for me. I see that info on the bottom left corner of my screen saying "i67.tinypics" but nothing shows.

That happens to me once and a while
One thing I try is to hit "reply with quote"
That will show the codes for the picture.
I copy the code and hit "cancel" then search using the code in a separate window
Sometimes works. There's probably better ways to get them but I'm using pretty old stuff here

That worked. Thanks for the suggestion.
Now - a couple of questions.
The picture of the floor with the brown and gray areas. Is that because there are 2 different finishes or is the gray area waiting for its new flooring?
The picture of the oval mirror with the two sconces - is that for the vanity? If so, where's the plumbing?
And, the one with the ceiling fan - what are those dark-colored boards in the dormer window doing? Are they temporary braces?

Two different finishes. I wanted to keep it as light as I could in the bathroom
Started out as a tile look but that was delayed so went with the wood look.

Yeah I'm cutting the vanity now to fit over the beam
The plumbing will come up through the floor behind the beam with just enough room between the floor joists
Here's a pic got it in today

Those boards in the dormer are support and permanent just the way it was built and couldn't get rid of them so I just finished them

    Nice looking vanity.
Hope nobody hits their heads on those dormer braces.
