    insomnia

I got the worse case of insomnia i have ever had. Been working shift work on opposite sides of the day and its got my internal clock completely screwed up. Anyone got any ideas on how to get to sleep? Here it is 5:08am (Atlantic) and i just got up because i was just tossing and turning.

Take two Benadryl pills. The Antihistamine ingredient in them is used in several over the counter sleep inducing medications. Should make you pretty sleepy for up to 6 hours.

The active ingredient has been linked to early onset dementia...

Try a shot of brandy in warm water...

Have you tried melatonin? That does a pretty good job. Any place that sells vitamin supplements usually has it.

A friend of mine has a recipe for some sleep tea. So far, everyone she's given it to has had no trouble falling asleep. If I can get the recipe, I'll post it. It's all herbal tea ingredients.

"Relax and sleep" from Dollar Tree. 30 pills for a buck and it is the only pill i've ever seen that actually has the correct dose of Melatonin(200mcg). You will see other pills that have 20 times that and that does not help at all. Also has Valerian Root and Chammomile. Works great.

Melatonin is a good natural sleep aid. Old timers here say that a spoonful of honey before bed helps also.

Definitely get a Docs advice if it continues. Poor sleep is very bad for physical and mental health. Depression is the ugly twin of poor sleep.

I would hate to get depression. I don't think it is that. But if i don't get a good night sleep soon. Im going out today for a nice long walk around the fields for a few hours. Its a cool overcast day. Hopefully that makes me tired tonight.

Benedryl does it for me, but like another member said, I'm probably giving myself early dementia.

May not be a good idea to take Benadryl unless you want to risk brain damage.

I feel that I am an expert on insomnia having suffered insomnia for many years as a result of working at night. Many doctors don't get it, but the brain never fully reprograms itself after working at night for any period of time.

In my experience only ambian works for insomnia. Yet the FDA says ambian is not for long term use. Therefore, once put on ambian by a family doctor, you will have a big problem every time you change doctors. My advice - see a sleep medicine specialist. They don't seem to have issues with long term use of ambian.

Be advised. Ambian is something that you will become physically addicted to. I have gone through the withdrawal which is unpleasant and lasts for several days. Of course then I was back to not being able to sleep and not being able to sleep is more of an issue to me than being addicted to a medication.

A lot of good advice here. I tried Ambien before and it worked but my doc is not so liberal with them. I had a good walk today. We will see what happens. Partisan1983 that's a lot on your plate. Do you use a sleep apnea machine?
