I would bet they are doing more than "hoping." It wouldn't surprise me one bit if some leftist, somewhere, is already on course to actively recruit someone to, actually, do it.
I hope Trump takes his own personal safety very seriously. The stakes will grow higher if he starts to turn things around for this country. The Dims/leftists can't stand by and do nothing if this country starts on the road to recovery and becomes great again, especially after all the damage done by Obama, and both Clintons.
And, to add trauma to defeat, I heard Sheriff Clark, on the radio today, say that Obama's real legacy is Donald Trump.

I think you fear the word fear. Leftists have been the most represented when it comes to assassinations world wide starting with WWI. The antipathy toward Trump is HUGE.
