Replace a Windstream Rental DSL Modem/Router?

Windstream is charging me $12 / month for modem rental. What they are supplying is a Sagecom wireless ADSL Router model F@ST 1704N.

Cable is not an option where I live and I've done the satellite thing. Windstream is the only game here.

Has anyone replaced their rental unit? Problems? Advantages? Advice? Would ADSL2+ be better?
We found out what "dealing" with progressive lefties is all about. Our side gives up something, they give up nothing and the progressives come back in a month or a year and want us to give up more... rinse and repeat...

Either purchase it or buy a compatible modem router on your own. Copy or have the addresses written down somewhere Quick search shows some from $44 on amazon.

I have xfinity/comcast cable. Bought my own modem years ago and never looked back. The only concern is to make sure you buy a unit that is compliant with current platform standards. For cable it is called DOCSIS 3.0.
