Building a Garand for my son

Look a cosmo covered receiver! I plan on putting together a Garand for my son. He is 3 years old now and i plan on having this finished to give him as a Graduation present. So i have lots of time. My Father is going to build a wooden crate to put it in. Similar to the military wooden crates you see full of rifles but sized just for one. He is going to stencil it with writing etc to make it look good. He is quite the woodworker when he is motivated. Has that old guy skill for that stuff.

Anyway i think my next step is a bolt. I figure that would be good to have when i get it barrelled so they can properly headspace it. I am going to go with a brand new barrel of course.

Beretta, that's probably a shorter one for .308 chambering I'm thinking.

Someone on a garand forum can probably tell you exactly what to measure to be able to tell

Probably the serial number can shed light on what model it is.

They have the 1/2" shorter M1 stocks designed for the Beretta M1.

Some links to resources of parts, all in the USA though.

That M-1 is going to knock hell out of a 3-yr-old's shoulder.

May I suggest an M-1 carbine, or perhaps an AK-74?

I did as you advised and asked in a more specialized forum... I immediately got this response.

I guess the shorter stocks are because of the shorter barrel.
