Is it possible to get this done?

In a tight spot (literally) with one of the surpessors I ordered. I ordered a bowers vers 9s for my sig mpx. Originally I was not planning on cutting down the barrel but now I think I want to. It has an 8" barrel and I am thinking of chopping it to 4.5 or 4 and leaving the can mounted under the current length handguard. The problem is the can has a diameter of 1.75" and the max inside diameter of the handguard is 1.675". The part that gets in the way is the thicker part of the hand guard.

So could a machinist remove the .085" of material about 5" down the inside of the guard?

actually, set up would take longer than the job itself.

Either a really big boring bar or a very long endmill cutter could do it I would think. You will have no anodizing left after it is cut.

The local shop I am looking at is a cradle to grave ar-15 manufacturer, they also manufacture their own hand guards, so they can refinish it, and I assume get deep enough. Also thinking about having them build me a 18" spr in 5.56.

I am waiting to get the can before I take it in to them so there is no guessing on the measurements.
