Saw this on the local evening news. We had a similar situation here a few years ago, but the span did not collapse, and as I remember, they did replace the metal beams.
Funny, an aircraft fuel fire could not cause metal support beams in a skyscraper to collapse, but yet a truck crash, with diesel being very similar to Jet-A, the support structure melted and collapsed. Hmmmmm...
Update- turns out it was not a crash beneath the bridge but an arson fire. Officials stated that non-flammable equipment was stored under the bridge. What ever was burning, it did a good job of showing that just enough heat over time can destroy concrete and the integrity of metal supporting structure can bring a road down.

They brought up a couple of foam pumper fire trucks from the international airport 15-20 miles away
to try and quench this last night. It is still smouldering 12 hours later and still to hot to get close to.
The are calling it a bridge but it is not really, it is an elevated interstate that extends for a couple of miles.
The estimate is that 225,000 cars use that a day. Cars no trucks because of road restrictions. This will be around
for a couple of months. Just Dayum.

75 runs from Miami to Michigan and runs through Atlanta. 85 also runs through Atlanta from Montgomery, Al. to Virginia.
Stay away. 4 miles or more are closed I 85/285 to the 75/85 split
closed until some say labor day.

I live in Eastland county in a town on I-20. The Wilks family lives here. They made money selling their Frac Tech business a few years ago. They have poured a lot of money back in to the town. Makes more money for them, but it helps the town to have things it would never have. Employ a lot of local people.
Also, somebody is remodeling the old Masonic Lodge building, to put in a craft beer brewery.
