Red face Get ready for Universal Basic Income

    It's coming, people...

FACT: 47% of all U.S. jobs at risk of being eliminated by technology and automation within the next 20 years.

    Massive systemic unemployment.

What are we going to do as a society to address it? Or are we just going to let everyone stagnate and starve?

Might be time to get rid of welfare for the few, scrap Social Security Retirement/Disability benefits, no more food stamps, and just roll out one massive program: government checks in the mail for everyone. EVERYONE.

No more fighting over who gets what, who deserves what, who earned what, just start taxing the profits of those very tools of automation that are displacing so many workers from their jobs. Jobs that are never coming back.

Ayn Rand be rolling in her grave. We're all going to be takers pretty soon.

Automation has been reducing real jobs for decades. Society adapts by creating fake jobs that let people maintain dignity and a sense of work ethic by making them think they are doing something important. These fake jobs are called government jobs.

Note: A government contractor, although not an employee of the government, is in many cases a fake job.

I for one won't get paid to sit in my ass and do nothing and I'll be damned if I'll pay for someone else to do that

I think the idea is to tax capital (the means of production -- however you can measure how much labor-displacing value it may have) and eventually move away from taxing income and consumption (sales taxes) altogether.

So, by taxing production you make products more expensive. Once again the middle class takes it up the ass. One way or another the middle class always ends up holding the bag.

Meanwhile, billionaires like Zuckerfucker, Gates, Cuban, Bloomberg, Soros, et al pay next to nothing.

There are four factors of production: land, labor, capital and entrepreneurship. They have been taxing the other three for centuries. I doubt seriously that the Government has given up a tax, I don't believe they would start now. Government spending expands to more than consume any increase in taxes.

They print the money out of thin air, the bits that make up the ledgers in a multitude of bank accounts are mere electrical signals. Why are we taxed if they print our money/enter it into a database out of thin air?

Just once I wish someone would introduce a bill that strips everyone in hollywood of their assets in excess of 1 million and also the same case for wealthy democrats.....just to see the sudden outcry and their falseness about sharing the wealth.

That's the one question socialists can't answer.

They want "the rich" to pay or they want "someone else" to pay.

    Socialists are blind to reality.
