Wonder how many of these "buyback" guns in big cities become throwdowns.....

We all know some of the more interesting and valuable buy back guns become personal property of police officers somehow, but how many become throw down guns? Just skip the survey to read the whole story. http://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/...to-inside-job/

No way to know. The gun could have been stolen by someone in the department or anyone involved in the destruction process then sold illegally to some criminal that a cop arrested and kept the gun to use as a throw down. What I do know is a 1977 S&W M36 deserved better than a buy back program.

But our question today has to do with the gun. How did it go from Chicago Police custody in 2004 to the scene of police-involved shooting in 2012?
When the police take a gun off the street, you would like to believe its killing days are over.
Wow that's strange. I never knew that GUNS kill. I thought is was the person pulling the trigger of an inanimate object. Learn something new every day.

I'd like to know how stupid someone has to be to turn in a $500-plus pistol in exchange for a $100 "gift card".

Years ago, just before the ban on "new" machine guns, a local lady turned in a war-time, bring-back her deceased husband brought back from WWII. It was a fully functional STG-44 he picked up in Germany. Since she turned it in to the police during one of their "turn-in" campaigns, they had to destroy it. That was a real shame. Too bad they couldn't have donated it to a museum somewhere.

    You have to wonder.

A lot of people know how to use a handgun but do not know anything about what they have.
