Why? I looked at some other spikers and they looked basically the same. Nut?

Just not sure these were done in the 5.56 caliber. The poly tech were done like this but I think the 84s models were not.

Wow that is wrong in so many ways!!!
Correct that the 84S never shipped with a folding bayo. Poly Technologies were the only commercial rifles with folding bayos. Looks like the gas block was either modified or replaced as well.
OR, looking at the rubbed out markings. Either my eyes are going bad or the "84S" has been scrubbed from the front trunion telling me that this might have been a "caught in port" rifle. Guessing that the 84S was scrubbed and MAK-90 or NHM90 were hand scribed in it's place, then a subsequent owner sanded that marking off. Odd but not out of the possibility that none of the other markings were removed. Most caught in port rifles also had the original importer marking ground off.
If you look in the details he also says "Pre 1994 clinton ban" Not pre 89 bush ban.
"I didn't even expect him to come up here, thinking it was that sweet. Thinking it's that candy land like that," White said. "He wanted to pickpocket everybody. But people out here, they weren't going for none of that."
