Book Review "Neptune's Inferno - The US Navy at Guadalcanal"

Just finished the book "Neptune's Inferno" by James Hornfischer. This book was about the naval war that accompanied the ground war for Guadalcanal during WWII. While it was not our first naval victory in WWII, it was hard fought and until almost the end the it was not sure who would win.

One of the most interesting things I noticed when reading the stories were the decisions made by reporters to not report when battles did not go our way. While the military and the Navy did try to influence what would and would not be reported, reporters also looked at what we were up against and decided in the interest of the country to hold back information so that the country would not lose the will to fight and win. Had the country known that the first two naval battles had cost us more men and ships than the Japanese we most likely would have pulled out of Guadalcanal which would have had far reaching effects on the rest of the war, both in the Pacific and the Atlantic.

It was a great read and well told by the author. When I started it I had a hard time putting it down. This book comes highly recommended.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Have you heard about the new corduroy pillows? They're making head lines!
