Any Professional Engineers in the House?

After almost 10 years I am going to take the professional exam in April. I plan on studying 2-3 hours a night for the next few months. Wish me luck

I have not done it, but I know more than a few PEs. Most of the people I know took a refresher course to brush up on the advanced math, formulas and just to get used to answering understanding and answering the questions as they will be asked on the test. The studying is a good start, but you need to have a plan on what to study. Good luck!

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

I took mine after the traditional 4 years.
Since I'm a Civil, I found that the Civ Eng Ref Manual covered most of the items on the test. One thing that was a curveball for me was groundwater hydraulics, not hard but it was not covered well in the CERM.
    Good luck on yours.

MY oldest son got his PE about 10 years ago, it was the step he needed to cement his career in engineering. He said it was a lot of work to get to that point.
He specializes in designing mechanical systems for large data centers and works all over the world, He is the senior mechanical engineer for a 1.5 million sq.ft data center Apple is building in east mesa, az.

I wish you the all best in reaching this level in your career

Damn that seems extreme. But life is what it is. What are you wanting/going to do?

An 8 hour test felt extreme. You mean career wise? Nothing different then i am doing now except ask for a raise when I get my stamp. It will open up other doors in the future and probably help pave a path for leadership positions.

I am betting that is because the test has to be hand graded. Getting to the right answer is only part of the issue with that test, the process used to get to the right answer is also a big part of the exam. Computers are good at a lot of things, but looking at the process which is different for everyone is harder for a computer to do.

The longest exam I have had to take is 4 hours. Technically it was 12 hours of exams to qualify Engineering Officer of the Watch on a nuclear aircraft carrier, but it was split into 3 4 hour exams and 2 2 hour oral boards. I would expect that an 8 hour test would be exhausting, especially with what little I know about what is on that exam.

I'm not sure why it takes that long is multiple choice. It is a national exam administered by the states. They do a lot of data analysis on the results to determine passing score.

That is not what I would have expected. My PMP exam was multiple choice and I knew the results about 2 minutes after the exam was done. Much easier exam, though!

Good luck Bro. A lot of the men in my family are engineers. Some work at Redstone Arsenal. Some at TVA. Many are retired.
