    And, to truly know the fear of fire, one needs to be burned.

    I learned the hard way how bad burns are (20% body coverage third degree burns, skin grafts, two surgeries and a month in the burn unit plus three more recovering at home).

    I had sheets of dead, gray skin hanging off my arms and legs, and the burned flesh underneath was a mix of bleeding red and charred black. I must have been in shock at the time, because I thought it looked quite awesome.

    What nobody realizes until they experience it is... along with the beyond excruciating pain of the burns themselves, there is also the almost-as-bad pain where the top layers of GOOD skin are sliced off to make the skin grafts. And, since you need a bit more than 20% of good skin to cover a 20% burn area, figure 45% or so area of raw, open screaming pain.

    Of course, the pain meds (I got dilaudid and morphine) didn't do shit for the pain, and after the end of the month in the hospital I had to go through withdrawal from the pain meds before I could go home.

    The searing pain of burned skin plus hard core opiate withdrawal is as close to hell as you can get while still alive. There were times when I seriously thought that it would be easier to just die.

    I'd refuse any form of opiate if prescribed , I'd rather deal with pain than the withdrawal.

    Once was enough for me to change my mind on painkillers.

    I've had opiates a couple of times but by and large they don't really work on me, at least not like what I would of thought given peoples comments about them. I do not feel really good on them. The pain is not really gone. Frankly I do better on Advil. Had a kidney stone 2 years ago, the shot me up with Morphine a couple of times, all it did was make me want to barf and it put a really shitty taste in my mouth.

    I can believe it. My body eats the stuff I have come "awake" during a surgical procedure and ask the doctors
    are we done? Remember it as clear as day. The dentist has to use twice the numbing agent. Advil (Noproxen Sodium) does nothing
    for me. Acetaminophen is bad for livers, For Ibuprofen I have to have 800 mg and that is a script. And it is hit and miss on the relief.

    That is ok I get it and would have loved working on it..

    Story( I know ) but this stuff is real. My ONLY disappointment in all these years is I was to stupid not to take a camera.
    I have some pics but the regrets are way more.

    October '89 this is going to be a crappy day. It is 40* and raining . I think it was a Thursday (payday) but it is going to suck.
    We are working on the 40th floor (40 x 13 gives the height) We are dropping 14" risers for the condenser water lines
    and this will not be fun. We get on the buck hoist and start the ride up it is 6:30 0r so and the sun has not quite risen.
    We are shakin, rattlin and rollin on our way up, while the buck hoist has been wrapped in plastic it is still leaking.

    29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 it starts to lighten some. Close to 39 there is more light. Get to 40 and we POPPED through
    the cloud layer. It was 10 or more minutes to sunrise but the clouds were flat there was no wind. We are on the base building
    and there is nothing but gray floor, clouds, columns and a cable to keep you from walking the building.
    It was flat and according to sight you could have walked the feet or couple of miles to the other structures that were built that high.

    Well work starts at 7:00 and we got at it as we did not wish to work in puddles of rain, we got out the Hilti Hammer Drill
    put a 3/4" bit in it and started drilling through the floor

    The Sun came up over the cloud cover and I knew then I was blessed to see what was happening.
    It was the MOST amazing true pure colour I have ever experienced. I swear It was any colour that you can think of and it was painted
    on the cloud canvas.

    Ascension 2017 Poem

    I was in the back main isle of Walmart at the corner of the iPads in the electronics where this happened last year. Easter eggs were still all over the place. I had my head down and I felt a shadow approaching. I asked out loud, "Are you, John Henry Tholms?" "The man replied "Are you Samson Todd Bessus?". As I reached for the camera in my pocket, a gunshot rings out. As the woman behind the checkout counter reaches out to tackle a young blond headed kid sporting a cheap double barreled plastic pistol; I turned around and realized who the guy bleeding on the floor is, and desperately called for help. He grabbed my ear and whispered, "Anyone who attempts to save their life, will lose it". And the 33 year old man died that moment in my arms.

    Suddenly a brighter flash of light pierces the soft florescent lights on the ceiling; As I looked up, a stranger shouts at me in a loud voice. "REACH FOR ME, QUICKLY, BEFORE THE PORTAL CLOSES". As I reached up, I felt what appeared to be the foot of a giant bird of prey grab me, and as I looked up, the flash evaporated. Scarecrows with pumpkins and turkeys were on almost every shelf it seemed.

    As I stood up a crowd was watching me, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?!?", "And what just happened??".

    As I tried to explain my disposition; a man in a brilliantly white shroud walks around the corner of the arts and crafts department; as he lowered the hood on his bright white garment, the face of a very, very, very, very familiar man is revealed. As a low flying Learjet whistles over the store, I reach to hug him, without hesitation.

    Suddenly a man in a red garb, similar to the one I was holding, places a large metallic object on my head; as he removed his headpiece, a man of middle eastern, possibly Jewish decent emerges, there was a small tattoo of an eagle on his forehead. I soon realized what the object he placed on my head was.

    I told him, "Thank you brother for saving me", he replied to me, "No; my friends son, he is the one who saved you".

    When I realized who the guy in my arms was; I let go of him to look around, and all of the people in the crowd that was watching me, were now all down on the floor, watching him..
