Schumer: Universal background checks Dems' top priority

Senate Democrats are zeroing in on a push to require universal background checks for gun purchases in the wake of last week's shooting at a Florida high school.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that universal background checks would be the party's "number one priority."

"Our No. 1 priority is going to be universal background checks, which is supported by about 80 percent of the American people, and closing the gun show loophole and all the other ways that people get around the background checks," he told reporters.

Lawmakers have turned their focus to the background check system after last week's shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed.

Schumer lies again. The Dims' #1 priority is total firearms elimination, along with the elimination of the 2A.

More to the topic, Heard on the radio, today, that this is more than just making our background check system more efficient. This movement is to require a background check on ALL firearms transfers; including parent giving a gun to their child, wife, etc. No more giving junior one of your hunting shotguns. You'd have to pay for a federal background check, possibly a transfer through the police, too.

You won't be able to leave your guns to your family, when you die, without them undergoing background checks prior to receiving them, etc. (Not sure where they'll stay in the meantime....)

This whole thing is going to be one major infringement after another.

    The Left is lying again.....

We already have background checks, which by the way the Florida shooter passed when he bought his rifle. The real problem it seems was the FBI doing their job, but guess they were and still are too busy looking for the missing link. (Russia-Trump thing)

But the background checks are only as good as they data available to check. We know the Air Force didn't provide information on the TX church shooter that would have denied him on his BC. We need to make sure the info gets entered.

Cho, the Virginia Tech shooter didn't get denied because his court ordered mental health treatment wasn't in patient so under VA law at the time it didn't go into NCIS. We changed that law so that so out patient treatment is a disqualifier now.
