Parliament approves tightening of firearms law

Small opposition parties stood against amendment

Parliament has passed the new Act on Firearms in plenary session, with 158 votes cast for and 17 against. A total of 24 MPs were absent from the Wednesday vote.

The True Finns Party motioned for the dismissal of the bill. Also the entire Christian Democratic group voted against it, accompanied by four MPs from the Left Alliance and one from the Social Democratic Party. The government parties, in turn, remained unified behind the amendment.
