National School Walkout: Thousands of Students Leave Class in Schools Across the Country

A month ago, hundreds of teenagers ran for their lives from the hallways and classrooms of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 students and staff had been shot to death.

On Wednesday, driven by the conviction that they should never have to run from guns again, they walked.

So did their peers. In New York City, in Chicago, in Atlanta and Santa Monica; at Columbine High School and in Newtown, Conn.; and in many more cities and towns, students left school by the hundreds and the thousands at 10 a.m., sometimes in defiance of school authorities, who seemed divided and even flummoxed about how to handle their emptying classrooms.

The first major coordinated action of the student-led movement for gun control marshaled the same elements that had defined it ever since the Parkland shooting: eloquent young voices, equipped with symbolism and social media savvy, riding a resolve as yet untouched by cynicism.

“We have grown up watching more tragedies occur and continuously asking: Why?” said Kaylee Tyner, a 16-year-old junior at Columbine High School outside Denver, where 13 people were killed in 1999, inaugurating, in the public consciousness, the era of school shootings. “Why does this keep happening?”

A good question... why do these massacres keep happening?

Principals and superintendents seemed disinclined to stop them. Some were outright supportive, though others warned that students would face disciplinary consequences for leaving school. At many schools, teachers and parents joined in.

Well, let's see. There a host of reasons.
Loss of "moral guidance", parents surrendering authority (and control) to the state, no acceptance of "personal responsibility", NO PATIENCE (wanting everything NOW instead of working for a goal in stages), etc.

Funny that they are walking out in favor of taking away constitutional rights. I wonder what they will do if they get their way and the next government decides that part of the first amendment needs to be taken away, that one about the right to peaceful protest? Or freedom of speech.

When I was their age we protested wanting more rights, not less, but my generation also protested that war that wasn't a war that was killing too many of my generation for what seemed like no reason. And in my generation you could go out into the school's parking lot and gawk at the various rifles and shotguns hanging in the back windows of the pickup trucks.

Aa was said before, these little commies are simply useful idiots. Based on a little research it looks like these child crusade demonstrations are funded by Soros.

People love to hate on J. Edgar Hoover -- but if not for this great American we would have been taken over by commies a long time ago - possibly even as far back as the 1920s and 30s. This country needs another man like J. Edgar to step forward and do what needs to be done. Otherwise, things don't look good.

Looking at these kids makes me proud that my own children (ages 30-34) did not turn out like these anti-American Constitution punks.

Tennessee Students Brawl, Tear Down American Flag During 'Walkout' Protests
The Antioch High School students walked out at 10 a.m. EST, much like their colleagues across the country, but instead of engaging in sign-waving and chants, the students engaged in a massive brawl, both inside and outside the school. And then, because that wasn't enough to discredit their demonstration, a handful of students pulled down the American flag.

Jet - Hoover didn't stop the Commies. They just went underground and re-emerged as DEMOCRATS.

But, if he were still around, they'd still be underground and not running a national political Party and destroying our country.....

Imagine, we wouldn't have to be looking at Pelosi, Feinswine, Hitlary, obama, Schumer, Biden, or any other like-minded traitors.

Actually he was suspended for not going to study hall which was the alternative to participating in the walkout. Guess he thought going to study hall as directed could be viewed as being against the protest so he decided to do neither. The main thing is he wasn't suspended because he didn't walkout but rather because he didn't follow directions to go to study hall.

My best guess is they'd suspend those who participated. That being said these walkouts kind of open the door both instances. Whether or not the schools would allow full freedom of speech/expression is doubtful.
