    Where Do You Shoot?

When I visit my in-laws in Kentucky, we always go shooting at the public range. I love it! We have nothing like this in IL.

Somewhere down that road about ten miles or so.
I dont shoot at ranges, I have no need to get shot by idiots or be around people I dont want to be around.
Besides, my range fees are free, and I have a 1000 yard long rifle shooting lane, the ability to practice drawing and firing my pistols, shooting around obstacles and not to mention the scenery!

I shoot at a private indoor range where I compete in a tactical pistol league. I also use a state run outdoor range for long gun and shotgun.

At home in Washington I shoot at a range. It is alright and it has a 300 yd area. The problem with it is they do not allow "rapid fire", defined as more than 1 shot every 3 seconds.

My favorite place to shoot is in the fields near my Mother-in-laws. I can shoot as much and as fast as I want there and as long as they aren't harvesting, no one minds.

I usually shoot at local club I'm a member of...about 15 miles away. Going to MO to visit grandparents in couple weeks; they have public ranges too, which I'll be going to, to test some .223 reloads gramps did for me for my AR. Hoping to shoot some of Grump's targets for the postal matches going on for 1911s.
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them. ... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

    Or front yard...or side yard...or....

We fly kites, ride horses, launch model rockets, shoot off fireworks and a bunch of other crap here too.

i shoot at home. i have three dedicated ranges. one is my pistol/plinking range that maxes out at 40yds. another dedicated rifle range at 155+yds and a woodland range. the woodland range is pretty dense so targets beyond 60yds are near impossible to see except under perfect conditions, and even then one can't clearly identify much further out.

all these pics are winter time shots. it's all i have handy right now.

this is across the back yard plinking range. those stumps are at roughly 15yds.

this is a pic of the woodland range showing the hanging table i made and lots of tree in the distance.

and for grins here is the ground rack i made for the woodland range. just something simple to keep my rifles off of the ground.

i don't have any pics of the 155yd range as of yet. it's kinda still a work in progress. the backstop is not entirely complete but beyond it is a large earthen pond damn on a neighbors property so there is no problem there (and he's cool with it). besides, out that way in a span of NNE to ESE there is nothing but thousands of acres of privately owned forest. the only time i really worry about it is during deer season. otherwise nobody is there.

duhhh, nope nope, i ain't gonna do it! i haven't raked a leaf in 7 years.

and if it's the woodland range of which you speak, it's ~250yds into the forest from my house, rocky as hell and uphill to boot.

i don't even think i still own a leaf rake.

There are two public ranges about an hour away from me, one in Stewart county Georgia, it's pretty nice, goes to 175yds, has a pistol range too. The other one is akin to a giant landfill, poorly maintaned, smaller, and you gotta pay 3 bucks to get in. That one is in the Tuskeegee natl forest here in Alabama.

There is an indoor pistol range in town, but it is expensive and loud and generally unpleasant. The air circulation system makes your paper targets, which hang from glorified clothespins, sway and flutter, despite cardboard backers.

I can get away with quiet 22s in my backyard, tho. This is what I plan on doing more of, between trips to the other outdoor ranges.

My normal shooting days we frequent a range in San Antonio or outside New Braunfels. The range in SA is organized well they have a few odd rules but the place is clean and well run.The one in NB is more like a membership or pay by the day. They have a 200 yard range. The biggest downside there is not a range master, folks show up pay or if you are a member show call a cease fire and everyone clears and you run down there put up your own targets.Sometimes someone covers up your target.I don't like the place.

When I'm at the lease we shoot there. We have a dry creek we cross to the other side of the lease, there are 50' tall cliffs can shoot into and we have paced it off to at least 400 yards.

At my Idaho house it's either out in my backyard or to my neighbors field, he has a nice shooting lane good for 300 yards. There are several other locations but they require lugging crap around. There is also a range about 50 miles from the house that a friend of mine is range master. They are only open on weekends, so we can go out there during the week and shoot without pesky people to bother us. This is where they hold the "Boom Shoot" every year, I think the range goes to 500+ yards.
In Las Vegas (where I'm at now), there is the washes where it is nice shooting lanes courtisy of mother nature. We also have the new shooting range here in the north part of the valley, it is not finished yet, just the basic rifle, pistol and shotgun areas, but they will be adding a tactical range and a 1000 yard range in the future.
