My stomach hurts thinking of the deals I'm going to miss, not being part of CMP or even being able to qualify.

I feel these pistols will be sold for a little less than they are worth. Oh sickness ensues.

misleading title leads one to believe that this is going to happen. im not going to hold my breath.

The upcoming National Defense Authorization Act that passed committee includes a plan ............
"passed committee" does not mean passes, its got a long way to go yet.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) was vetoed by the President, which is where the sale of the 1911s was located. It has not been brought back up to try to override the veto as it is felt that the Democrats that initially voted for the law will not vote against the President. Is this a new version of the NDAA or the original version. On a positive note, nothing that I have read about why President Obama vetoed the NDAA had anything to do with the sale of the 1911s. It all focused on Guantanamo closing and on raising social program spending (not a function of government, by the way) the same amount that defense spending (an actual function of government) is raised.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

It isn't that hard to qualify. I joined the Garand Collectors Association at one time which met the club affiliation for the CMP.

    CMP Sales Update - 13 November 2015

An update on the 1911 pistols. The revised NDAA has passed the House and Senate. It is on its way to the President's desk for signature. We have no further information at this time.

Now we get to watch as they set this up, if CMP even decides to. From what I can tell they are allowed, but not directed, to sell the 1911s.

I hope so, I am saving up to be ready when/if it happens. I am just trying not to get my hopes to high.

Can somebody explain to somebody that knows zilch about the 1911 (me), what are the differences between the 1911 and the 1911 A1 ?

Basically the 1911 has aflat mainspring housing and long trigger. The 1911A1 has an arched mainspring housing and a shorter trigger. May be some other internal differences and of course an a government issue piece I presume the markings would be different.

    Great visuals Steve! Thanks.
Now to a more "use based" question. Is there any particular advantage of one to the other?

Preference now days seems to almost be a mix worth long trigger and flat msh. The smaller grip safety on the non a1 can lead to hammer bite. I believe there were a lot more a1s made. Better get one of each to be sure
