I haven't been this pissed of in a long time.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"
Infuriating to watch. Especially at the end. The helmet cam video is being analyzed heavily, but it only represents a part of the events. It's hard to guess what's going on. What was the purpose of the red smoke - air support, evac, rally point?
I had wondered why they didn't hop in the truck and take off, but then considered the vehicle may have been at top speed due to damage or something. It sounds like they were set up by the village idiots, and were heavily outnumbered and outgunned. Where was it, Astan or Iraq, where another US unit met the same, they left the village and got hit by an enemy force that had inside intel. Fighting islam for islam, how do you win?

It is both infuriating and depressing. These ongoing small scale military actions in Africa (and other places) need to be authorized at some point by Congress, explained to the American people and linked (other than some tenuous claim) to our national security. Particularly the need for military activity in 50+ African countries. Is this some modern day version of what Kipling called the White Man's Burden? Is there blowback from these operations? Are we promoting military juntas at the expense of democracy?
