Wow. Trying to get public school teacher ccw data from states that allow it.....nothing.

I habe officially reached out to a local school board member and our union president (I am not a union member). Intend over the summer to publicly address our school board about adding security in our schools, planning to have a lunch with both in the next several weeks to discuss it. Decided to start researching states that allow teachers to carry. Called Idaho. Was told by a secretary of the state AG that they DO NOT ALLOW teachers to carry.

Then called Utah AG was told they cannot discuss the law over the pbone. Was transfered to state ed depo, where I left a voice mail. Then called the Utah state bar, as the AG office advised me to, and they again said they cannot discuss the law over the phone. With all of these people I explained calmly amd professionally that I was seeking data on the laws, if possible how many teachers carry, and what if any issues they have had. Silence. From all. Was told they cannot even discuss what the law allows over the phone.

Uh.....where am I wrong? They can give out NO info? Really? So there is NO WAY of gathering stats or info on ccwing teachers?

They may not discuss whether they do, or don't, allow teachers to carry guns as this would be giving information to someone who might be wanting to assess the threat of how successful a school shooting might be to someone they don't know.

For all they know, you might be someone who is thinking of pulling off such an incident at one of their schools and they don't want anyone to know how well protected their schools are.

I's say the best, maybe only, way to find out would be to check with some federal school agency and see what info you can get from them.

Still, this could be too soon, after the recent school shooting, to ask as I'm sure most agencies are rather flighty about someone asking how safe their schools are.

You'll have to keep us posted on how your meetings about school security go. Hopefully they won't push or suggest bonehead ideas like adding buckets of stones in each classroom for protection.

Got return call from state board of ed head from Utah this morning. He was extremely cool, advised me that the law says A. Any ccw holder can carry in any school at any time and B. Law also says that they cannot ask who does carry. So no way of tracking how many teachers do or do not.
