Thumbs up Buck of the month

Buck has been doing a "Buck of the Month" this year. Mostly it's been a fairly standard model with one or more special features. This month it was their "Talon" with blue G-10 scales and a different color blade coating. What makes this offering (75 pieces only) a little more special is that the standard Talon is normally only available to active duty military. This Buck of the Month version does not carry that restriction.

As some of you know I'm heavily addicted to more than a few traditional Buck models and collect some quite heavily. That being said I also have a fairly large collection and interest in their more tactical models. When it first came out I referred to it as a "Klingon Circumcision Dagger". I still think it would handle that task quite well. Sorry for the crappy photos.

With 10.25" of 1/4" thick 5160 steel including a limb hook, pry end, saw and serrations I believe it could get the job done in a variety of situations. I know I felt more manly just taking it out of the box.

Nice looking knife. Talking about serrations on a knife blade, has anyone, here, ever tried sawing a branch through to see how well those serrations work on cutting wood up?

    Just curious about this....

No, the saw teeth aren't intended to actually saw through a branch. They're more for notching or cutting a groove for cordage when lashing logs and branches. The serrations on the blade, last 2" in front of the handle are more for cutting rope or other fibrous items.

What I find the serrations most useful for is cutting the plastic banding on shipping cartons. Used to be metal banding but most places have gone to synthetic. The serrations tend to catch and severe this banding better than a standard edge.

Yep, some serious badassery with this one! Still not sure if I will just beat the shit out of it or keep it NIB to maintain any possible collector value in the future? I need to dig out my largest fixed blades and take/post some photos. Think I've only got a few? I collect way more folders than fixed and most of the fixed are under 6" but I'm pretty sure I've got a few that run more than that.

That is an amazing knife/machete. Like the handle a lot.
