    Question The Chinese have a new Russian Jet that could be a Problem for us. a Russian Sukoi Fighter.

    I forgot the Number but looking at the Plane, they have come a long way from the SU-24. supposedly it is equal to the F-22? I saw a YouTube Video, but have yet to look up Data on it. Has anyone any Intel. on the Jet? Paul

    There really isn't anything that can touch or even see a f22 in the air today, unless the 22 is within visual. And you never get to visual range with a 22 because it will splash you long before that can take place. One 22 versus a squadron of f16s means one entire squadron out of commission. If the f16 is better than just about any conventional fighter our opposition has, things don't look good for them. The real problem is the way combloc forces have traditionally employed their fighters. They use ground control in a micromanagement effort, with little freedom given to their fighter pilots. Part of the reason for this was back in the day it was very hard for them to design and build radars small enough and effective enough to be worth the weight added to their fighters, we beat them in radar. So they rely on powerful ground based radars to guide their fighters to ranges where whatever radar the fighter does have can work. The 22 is a brilliant plane and possibly far superior to anything out there today no matter what the propaganda outlet says, we just don't have enough of them.

    Another thing is microwave radars (the size of radar that can be carried in a fighter) can't see stealth aircraft like the 22 and 117, but hf, as in high frequency shortwave radars, can. Very hard to put an effective hf radar into something the size of a fighter so this is a ground based radar mission and today this is done with passive hf radar. This is how they took out that f117 during bill clintons war in Kosovo, a Serb passive hf radar system saw the 117s and told the local missile battery when to volley fire, and they got lucky. The passive nature allows existing shortwave signals to be used to see stealth aircraft without running the risk of emitting a radar signal of their own that can be attacked. The first thing in an air attack is sead, suppression of enemy air defense, so they were hesitant to turn on their radars and instead relied on whatever shortwave signals were coming in.
    Here's a paper on how hf signals are used as passive radar;

    I believe you're referring to the Sukhoi Su-35.

    Yes thank you, SU-35, but it appears they have a current fighter, the F-50, but what the Russian MIG. The thing I noticed about the new SU, it had those angled down, Tail Fins in the Side, just like the F-22. My Question, however, what happened in-between SU-27, and SU-35? Paul

    Weren't we always told the Mig was superior to our planes right up until the Gulf War?
