Russian maritime patrol plane was shot down with 14 personnel on board

The world once again was taken to the brink of World War 3 Monday night, and the situation is still extremely dangerous. A massive wide-ranging assault on multiple Syrian provinces, including the coastal cities of Latakia and Tartus, occurred Monday evening reportedly by Israel and possibly with the help of France or the US, though the Pentagon is denying any US assistance during the assault.

With Syrian and Russian air defenses responding during the over hour-long attack which targeted among other things an alleged chemical weapons research center, and in the confusion of missiles cross the sky, a Russian maritime patrol plane was shot down with 14 personnel on board. The Pentagon is claiming it was Syrian defense which "accidentally" downed the plane, while Russia is pointing out its radar observed a French frigate firing in the area just before the plane went down.

Regardless, this is an incredibly dangerous situation which puts world powers closer to major war. And crucially, the whole event came immediately after Russia and Turkey announced they've agreed to establish a "demilitarized zone" around Idlib.

Apparently the Israelis used the Russian elint bird as cover for their run in to launch missiles, Syria let loose some air defense missiles to hit the Israeli missiles and f16s and hit the Russians. Russia is holding Israel responsible.

How do you say "I can't even be mad. I'm actually kind of impressed" in Russian?

I'm surprised ww3 hasn't started yet. Maybe it has. Also, wonder why the s200 ada missiles Syria launched at the Israelis hit the Russian bird, what with iff and all. Perhaps the missiles weren't using iff mode, or the Israelis were smurfing the Russian iff for the time. Hell maybe the Russians weren't in iff mode.

Rumor has it that one of the Russians on the plane was about to expose their collusion with Hillary.

Official rumor started by me two minutes ago.

Wow. I read the same, exact rumor about 1 minute ago.

    This definitely has traction.

Putin has been cagey about all the shitstorm going on in Syria. First his mercs tested a kurd/US sf base and they lost several hundred mercs, Turkey shot down one of his jets, and it goes on and on. I expect him to unload when no one is expecting it.

Bolton Warns Russian Missile Sale To Syria Would Be "Significant Escalation
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said early Monday, "A modern S-300 air defense missile system will be supplied to the Syrian Armed Forces within two weeks. It is capable of intercepting air assault weapons at a distance of more than 250 kilometers and hit simultaneously several air targets."

Significantly, Syria's systems will be integrated with Russian systems via the S-300, in order to prevent instances of "blind" firing (or failure to have friend or foe identification capabilities).

Russia had in previous statements blamed Israel for the last Tuesday incident in which a Russian Ilyushin-20 reconnaissance plane was accidentally brought down by an aging Syrian S-200 defense system after Russia had scrambled its jets to respond to an attack by four Israeli F-16s on Syrian government targets.

Shoigu said the S-300 system will prevent such future mishaps: "The command posts of Syrian air defense forces and units will be equipped with automated control systems only supplied to the Russian armed forces. This will facilitate centralized control over all forces and resources of the Syrian air defense, monitor the situation in the air, and ensure operative issuance of orders."
