    S&W .500

I've owned this gun for maybe 7 or 8 years and after the last range trip with that gun became to much, my arthritis made my hand hurt like never before that my wrist and palm has been jacked up for 3 or 4 days now.

I've always been a big caliber guy and I thinking not so much anymore, my advice to you young guys is don't get old it fucking sucks.

Can you load it to lower pressures that would ease the recoil some....?

I don't think lower pressures would adversely affect it since it's a wheel gun.

I think that may be the only way to keep this beast, granted I was shooting 430 gr. bear loads but this is the first time I ever thought a particular firearm might be too much for me.

Shooting gloves and or perhaps a wrist brace might help.

I think you should be able to find a downsized load comparable to a .41 magnum. That should tame it somewhat....

If you like it, keep it and just shoot reduced loads. It's still a big bore. Don't worry about shooting full house loads - I personally find the 44 Mag to be plenty satisfying - power-wise, and I prefer it in a Single Action at that.

I sold my big handguns (.500 &.460 SW; .454 Ruger redhawk) for the same reasons, even with a glove and wrist brace the recoil got to be too much, and yea getting old and crippled SUCKS

Probably going to sell of my magnum rifles for the same reasons, just not so fun to get the shit kicked out of my shoulder anymore

Did you try any reduced loads in you revolvers? If so, how did they work out?

Look into the .50 special, they designed it to shoot in a .500 the same way .38 and .44 spl work in magnums.

I never loaded ammo for it, but Hornady had a 350 grn load that was the mildest i fired, but still too much. Shit i think the gun weighs almost 5 lbs loaded !

I think 30 years of swinging hammers and nail guns has taken it's toll on my hands and wrists.
