Parkland Shooter Registers to Vote From Jail

I can't believe this happened. Some will point that he registered as a Republican, to me that does not matter. What matters is that he registered from jail while waiting for being held for a crime that he has confessed to. Who goes to a jail to register people to vote? BTW, apparently ballots were sent but they did not reach those in jail in time for them to actually vote. So an administrative error, not actual thought, was what prevented him from voting.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

He's not a convicted felon yet.

    "Innocent until proven guilty."

Anyone being held in jail pending any criminal charge still has a right to vote, so long as they have no prior record.

Unless we want to see people stripped of their rights before they are even convicted?

    It is what it is.
Don't disagree with innocent till proven guilty, the problem in this case is that he has confessed we are just waiting for the court to finish the administration for that confession. That makes him a little different in my estimation.

Yes, but sometimes confessions are coerced. That's why every accused person deserves their full day in court.

I know it seems like a loophole, but sometimes it's better for even the clearly guilty to maintain their rights, to preserve the same privilege for the rest of us should we ever be accused of a crime we aren't guilty of.

I am not advocating for a loss of rights. If he wanted to register to vote from jail he has that right. My irritation is that a group focused on those in jail, including this person. In other words he was recruited to vote. The irony is that he registered to vote for the party that they were most likely not supporting. Again, why go and recruit someone to vote that has confessed to such a horrendous thing (I realize some confessions are coerced, a logical person would not think that in this case).
