Richard Simmons - Thought You'd Be Interested!

AIM has some S&W .38 Sp model 64s for $400. I know you like S&Ws so thought you would be interested. Had I not just bought a new revolver I would be thinking about this.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Have you heard about the new corduroy pillows? They're making head lines!

So, what did you think of them? They sold out of the 64-5s and 64-6s for a while and appear to have a new bunch available. I have been considering ordering one but the price seems a bit high, especially when shipping and transfer fees are added to the price. Am I right about that?

What I’m seeing at AIM right now are 64-3 and 64-6. I prefer the 64-3 as it has the hammer mounted firing pin and doesn’t have the MIM hammer and trigger of the -6. I also like the shape of the cylinder latch thumb piece. The 64-3 example that show is of post 1981 manufacture since they dropped the pinned barrel in 1982.

The price isn’t bad as just about any functioning S&W revolver will bring $400. I prefer my standard barrel M64 as I like the way the 4” balances with the lighter barrel but that’s just me.

I just looked and they had 64-5s available. I just put in the order. I can't wait!

I didn’t see those. I was looking under the “what’s new” section. Should be a very serviceable revolver. Out of curiosity what made you choose the 64–5?

Similar characteristics to the 64-3 but about 20 years newer, if I remember what I read. As these are law enforcement trade-ins I figured they would have been shot less. That was the big reason. The 64-6 seemed to be much different in terms of manufacturing processes and features (the removal of the hammer mounted firing pin being a great example) so I didn't want to go that direction. That was my thought process anyway.

Makes sense. I believe you’ll enjoy it. Let us know what you think when it arrives. If you post pics of markings I might be able to tell you what agency issued it.

Thanks, I will take you up on that. I am going to call AIM on Tuesday when they open to make sure they get my FFLs information and to ask if they can make sure I get a gun with wooden grips. The pictures show wood for the 64-5 but the description says that some have Pachmayr grips. For this I would rather have the S&W wood grips.

Picked it up yesterday. It looks like it has been handled a lot, but not fired. The revolver has also been polished making it look almost like it was nickel plated. As soon as the Gallery comes back up or I find another photo hosting site I will get some pictures posted of it.
