Just picked up a police trade-in S&W 64-5 in .38 SPL. The revolver is very tight. The barrel and rifling is very sharp but the revolver has been handled a lot. Looks to me as if it has not been shot much. It is in stainless steel but was polished so that it looks like it is nickel. There are some markings on it besides the SN. In white paint on the butt of the grip is a number, I think it is P-45. There is also a number engraved with a vibra-pen on the cylinder face and in the recess exposed when the cylinder swings out. The number is 074. According to AIM these were originally used by a law enforcement agency overseas, but I don't know which one. I am thinking about writing to S&W to see what they can tell me. Oh yeah, the SN is BJC9XXX. I tried looking it up on the S&W website to see when it was manufactured but did not find it. Anyway, here a picture of it. As I figure out how to you Flickr I will post some more.
