The county airport was offering rides this weekend.
They also had a 1928 Travel Air
There were also a lot of planes stopping for refueling after the Oshkosh air show




To say I was apprehensive would be an understatement. It was actually my daughter that convinced me to go for it



I was able to get the pilot "Dewey" out of Ohio to circle around my place
Using hand signals he found it and took some shots himself





After that he did some banking around the area and headed back



There was another passenger up front, the pilot was behind all of us
Here we are landing



Was well worth doing and another good memory

The woods in the back is about three quarters of a mile away with a 25 ft berm running down the center
you can see the man cave and trap field on the back side of the house

The aerobatic pilots, from the picture, were pointing out a few things on the Travel Air that were way more troubling but
after two days of thinking about it I just jumped on in
Here's a couple Russian planes that came in for fuel today
They told me the model but don't remember what they are

Did the pilot let you fly it?

Years and years ago (before scum sucking lawyers) and when EAA was in Rockford, IL, my dad used to slip a pilot a $20 bill to take me up for a ride. I've flown all kinds of airplanes that way and it was a thrill I'll never forget.

Let's see if I can recall all the ones I've flown:

• AT-6 Texan
• The original Breezy
• PT-17 Stearman
• Piper J-3
• Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" (yes with the OX-5 engine!)
• Fairchild PT-19
• Starduster Too biplane (yes, "too", not "two").
• Piper L-4 (WW-II liason airplane - actually a J-3)
• ....and of course my dad's own Piper PA-11

Once you've had your hands on that stick, you never forget it.

(edit to add): Two more that I would love to fly, but probably never will are a B-24J bomber (just 10 seconds in the co-pilot's seat and my hands on the wheel are all I ask!) and a Feisler FI-156 Storch (storch = stork in English, and the FI-156 was a small, light short takeoff and landing airplane used for liason purposes like the American L-planes).

It was set up for up to three passengers so had to remove the front controls
I've had the chance years ago on a more modern plane
I enjoyed it but didn't really take full advantage of it
That pilot taught flying at Purdue and gave us a pretty thrilling ride

from the looks of the corn it's doing well. was there much flooding in your area? my sister lives near shelbyville, says some fields aren't going to be planted this year.

Oh yeah we had standing water around here for quite awhile
Very hit or miss around here
You can drive down a road with a crop on one side and weeds on the other

Some got in just before the June 15th deadline
That later got extended but by then I think most had already wrote the season off

I like the picture of those two orange planes, the "Twin Tigers".
My Dad used to take me and my brother up in a Cessna like the one in the picture but this was about 40 years ago. He would do the take-off & landing but then let us do the flying. He never did teach us how to land however, esp. after he got a Moony low-wing in the mid-70s.
