After today, it's all historical.
The gun used was not a S&W Model 36. Either a Model 49 or a Model 38.

What is more important was how a photograph was published with no context to torpedo a war we were winning and should have won with no problem. It wrongly portrayed our allies as vicious killers and the vicious killers of the Viet Cong as the victims. One of the first wins for the liberal news media.
