Angry Need Advice From Cord-Cutting Experts

Comcast just yanked TCM and stuck it a $10 tier with a bunch of crappy sports channels. I'm thinking it's time to tell them to pound sand.

I already have a HTPC connected to my tv. Now it's time to figure out what to use as an alternative.

A friend of mine cut Comcast TV about 2 years ago. For the local channels, she uses some kind of "magic" antenna, and that works fine for her.

For cable channels, she uses an Amazon Prime hook-up that didn't cost much (around $19, I think) and since she's a Prime member She gets over a hundred channels (i.e., Showtime, HBO, Cinemax, etc., plus a lot of other cable channels she likes) for about 1/3 the price Comcast was charging.

To use what she has, you have to have an Amazon Prime membership, but since she's had one for years, this was just a plus as far as she was concerned.

Contact Amazon and check out what they're offering. They have listings as to what they offer. It is a lot cheaper than Comcast.

My son gave me a Firestick that he doesn't use. I hooked it up. It's rather useless. All shows available are either crap or cost $$$.

I have no use for TV.

    Get rid of TV

You will not miss TV at all. I don't even get broadcast channels where I live.

The decision has been made and it's sayonara to Comcast tv.

The decision to yank TCM was the starting point. Then I found out I was going to lose Starz/Encore and some other channels. Couple that with a price increase and it was just too much.

I'll keep the internet & voice & get streaming programming.

So I signed up with Youtube.tv and Disney Plus for pay tv. Added free programming from Pluto tv & Kanopy. We already had Netflix & AmazonPrime and ota nets.

There is a trade-off in that some channels won't be available & my dvr won't work with streaming. On the other hand, I'll save money & get a noticeably better picture quality (true 1080p & 4k).

After 20+ years it's bye-bye for Comcast cable tv.

Well, I officially cut the cord today.

Turned in the cable box & M-card. Then upped the internet from 175mbps & 1tb data cap to 275 mbps & unlimited data.

All in all I save $70/mo.
