Call for tougher gun licensing criteria after Cumbria killings

A change in the law to prevent criminals who receive suspended jail terms from holding gun licences for five years should be introduced, a report into the killings of Derrick Bird has recommended.

The taxi driver, who shot dead 12 people in west Cumbria in June, was sentenced 20 years ago to six months in prison, suspended for a year, after being convicted of stealing from his then employer.

It must just be the way this article is worded. If your convicted by a court of law, you are now a "criminal". regardless of whether or not your sentence is suspended. So before this "law" is passed,...do they currently issue gun licenses to criminals??? if so,..thats a little weird.

Or is it some sort of "collective guilt" thing. Just by being a gun owner, military veteran, ect, ...they "suspect" you as being a criminal, or to them you "feel" like a criminal. Youve never been convicted of a crime,...but it just darn "feels" like you might be one.

The Cumbria shootings. So now whats left of the UKs shooting community, now they have to be persecuted even more. If not total extinction.

just look at handguns in the UK. 100% of them had to be turned in and destroyed---without compensation.
