All of these cute alternative sources of power need to be able to economically stand on their own without government subsidies in order to be viable long term.

How about all of the toxic metals and chemicals in battery technology? Oh we'll take the typical liberal approach of just have it made and disposed of someone else so its not our problem and we can say we are saving the environment.

What about the scarcity of some of the materials (rare earth metal) used in the production of batteries?

What about power production capacity as well as the power grid? Can you charge everyone's (2 per family) electric car in the evening in mid august when the air conditioner is running along with the dish washer and washing machine?

What about trans oceanic shipping for all of the shit you want to have made over seas because manufacturing jobs are "dirty"? Electric powered container ships?

Same with airplanes.

What about the economic value and tax base of the petroleum industry which would be funding all of these stupid liberal programs?

I swear liberals are some of the dumbest purportedly educated people you can find.

It is actually for these reasons that I support the exploration of alternative energy technologies and hope we find actually viable substitutes. When oil starts to become scarce we are in deep shit unless we can satisfy all of those points. The takeover of oil by alternatives should be driven by the economics of reality, not by policy makers in Washington.
