Yeah, for some reason (probably transportation or lack thereof) the price of wood is also crazy high. Been pricing wood fencing to repair or replace the shadow box fence in my back yard. Would rather see the wood rot to the ground than pay a couple of thousand for only 100 linear feet!
I also heard there was a lumberjack strike in Canada that is hurting supply. The strike is over but it will take a little for it to recover.

Ace is always a bit on the high side, I only shop their out of convenience.
Studs at lowes are around $4.50.
Not cheap but a far cry from almost 8 bucks.
I'll stop by there monday. Daddy needs another work bench.
