After today, it's all historical.
While both, SxS and O/U, shotguns really have no difference in real firepower, a SxS is perceived as being more intimidating than an O/U. I guess it's seeing both barrels side by side that makes it "look" more intimidating.

About 30 years ago, I found a Stevens Mod. 311 (fixed chokes) SxS with double triggers. According to the serial number, it was made around 1960-61. The first thing I did was take it to the gunsmith a couple of blocks away and had him bore it out and put in aftermarket tubes. Oddly enough, years later I find out that Stevens had a Model 511 that HAD screw-in chokes. Oh well.Originally Posted by alismith
With different chokes, I can hunt different ranges (near & far) or different game (quail & rabbit) with different loads. After several years of using my Mossberg 500 pump with different chokes, the Stevens became my "go to" hunting gun. It is also my HD gun as the left barrel (back trigger "skeet 1") has a 3" #4 Buck shell (40 pellets) while the right barrel (improved cyl.) has a 3" OO Buck (15 pellets). Pulling both triggers at the same time puts out a cloud of 55 pellets and there isn't much that can withstand that blow at 10-12 feet.
I don't like O/U or "single selective" triggers for these reasons.
