    Word usage question

The word that means "pointing something in the right direction": is it:

"You need to orient yourself properly"

    --- or ---

"You need to orientate yourself properly".

I say it's "orient", but my wife says "orientate" claiming that another form of the word is "orientation".

    Which is it?

    Thanks.

In the USA you would normally use orient. The word orientate has the same meaning but is typically used by the British. Hope this helps!

I agree with using, "orient" in a sentence rather than, "orientate." Anyway, the British are a poor choice for an example of how to speak English correctly....just listen to how they pronounce, "aluminum." They add an extra syllable and say, "al-u-min-i-um" instead of pronouncing it correctly. (Plus they don't know how to use a table fork either. They hold it upside down with they eat.)
