    My absolute go-to is the magnesium block type. I attach a large p38 can opener to the chain and use the burred side to scrape off the metal and spark the rod

    My favorite WAS BlastMatch. But the plastic used in its housing was VERY CHEAP, and there was no overtravel stop, so you would smash your fingers into the tinder.

    BlastMatch could start a paper plate on fire with one stroke. It would angle all the sparks down to your target and was very easy to use.
