    Might have been a twister

Albeit a small one, I did sleep through it with the front door open, but I think I had a close encounter last night
Noticed a small opening in the cornfield this morning about 50 yards from the front door

Taking a closer look I find a small circle about 20 ft dia just inside

I'm guessing it touched down there and skipped back up if it was one

Judging from the debris it looked to have traveled from SE to NW

Glad to still be here it's pretty hot today for the clean up so I'm taking my time between AC breaks

Yup. Looks like one did pass through. Had one go through my housing development about 30 years ago. It came just a little lower than the tops of trees. I heard it as it went through the back yard. It was like a real high pitched whistle as it moved past (I was expecting a roar like a train going past, but I guess that only happens when it touches the ground.).

When it was over, you could see its path from the top of the hill. In a perfectly straight line, it took out about a 50 foot wide path through the tree tops. It passed over a house and took its TV antenna off, before going back up into the clouds. It traveled about 200 yards through the trees.

    You were lucky....

My wife talked to her sister in Bay City, MI (about 100 mi. north of detroit) and she said they had tornado warnings for her area, and winds 50+mph, must have been part of the same storm system

In 1985 (the year I got married) 01 June we were driving up to our cottage in Canada which is about as far north of Toronto as Toronto is from Western New York. Anyway the day before a tornado went through Barrie, Ontario and we had to through Barrie to get to the cottage. It looked like a 100 foot diameter endmill took a cut right through Barrie. Trees, pavement, farms, guardrails from the highway, EVERYTHING was cleanly cut away right down to the dirt. The weaving path of the tornado was clearly visible. Steel guard rails were wrapped around trees like ribbons, black pavement was cleanly cut away down to the dirt, farms were torn away and even concrete basements caved in.

And I didn't even have a camera with me!

(second picture you can see the clear line of destruction)

Yeah that's why I had to say twister
I couldn't really bring myself to call mine a tornado because of that kind of damage compared to mine
I had another years ago that went from WSW to ENE and came just as close
It took branches and kind of wove them together in a straight line
My rotted old porch stood up to it though so insurance claim to replace it
