Moving from house to house - GUN SAFE questions

Hypothetical question: So do you get moving companies to just MOVE massive gunsafes filled with firearms onto their trucks? Or do you EMPTY them and pack the 'items' separately in soft 'rugs/cases'. Never thought of this before. A big safe (18+ to 24+ size) weighs a LOT. When it's full of 'items' it weighs even more. Has anyone moved multiple large safes via a moving company?

Just curious if ANYONE has moved a long distance with a collection that was larger than a few items.

    Thanks in advance.

Haven't moved but given it a thought several times considering what is in my safes. I personally would remove everything, pack them individually and if a reasonable distance, move them in my cars. If car travel is not available, and knowing that since they are moving gun safes they know that you have something, pack them separately and make sure the movers have no idea what is in any boxes.

I've moved within the last several years. The moving company I hired required that the safe was empty and that I transported the guns on my own.

They charged an extra fee for the safe as a heavy item to boot.

I figured it was more or less standard but I didn't look into it that hard.

My safe weighs about 1200 lbs. empty. Add the weight of about 80+ guns, and accessories, and it becomes super heavy.

IF I move to NC or TN, I may be forced to leave it due to costs.

Empty it. As stated above the moving company wants them empty. Plus you don’t want whats inside jostling around during the move.

As mentioned, pack the hardware separately and move them yourself, let the company move the safe. Unless you're crossing an ocean, you can move them yourself in either your own or a rental vehicle...just an added expense and time involved.
