I think it more shows just how ineffective handguns are at actually killing someone.

It was years ago so forgive me if I don't remember the exact numbers and details but there was a study by I believe it was the FBI on handgun shootings and it found the survival rate was something like 80%. We tend to think of them as a lethal weapon but humans are actually quite difficult to kill and can survive an incredible amount of damage. Most of the deaths make the news, those not ending in a fatality not so much and of course our perceptions are also shaped from what we see on TV and in the movies, where someone instantly drops dead from a single shot.

Can someone die from a single shot from a handgun? Yes it certainly does happen, but it is the exception not the rule.

I've seen this hunting with a rifle.....some animals die like somebody hit a switch, others have you chasing blood trails for miles. I've heard a lot of different explanations as to why this happens, from hitting at a certain point of the heartbeat to psychological reactions but whatever the case you can never know how anything or anyone will react to being shot. People have survived iron poles going through their head and even being shot through the heart, the human body can be amazingly resilient to injury and on the other hand they have found soldiers dead on the battlefield with no apparent wounds at all. Death and killing can be a very strange thing.
