State House approves 'stand your ground' self-defense bill

HARRISBURG -- By a more than 4-1 margin, the state House tonight sent to Gov. Ed Rendell a bill that expands the use of self-defense in Pennsylvania.

Called "stand your ground" legislation, the bill enables people to use lethal force to defend themselves without retreat outside their homes. Currently the law allows those protections within one's home.

The Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association opposed the bill.

If there is a dead body then there is the opportunity to send someone to prison. That's how we got into this mess with 'duty to retreat' was by over-medicated prosecutors trying anyone who does anything to stop a bad guy.

Now they are bitching because they aren't getting the murder conviction rate they want.
Fuck them and the horse they rode in on! The law was written clearly to protect everyone, drug dealer or not, from a threat in their own home or vehicle.

This is just my opinion and it's entirely correct.

Rendell vetoes gun bill and two others

    By Joelle Farrell
    INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Gov. Rendell today vetoed three bills, including a measure to expand a person's right to use lethal force against a perceived threat outside of the home.

The current law, the so-called castle doctrine, already protects residents' right to defend themselves inside their homes, or "castles." The bill would have extended that right beyond the home and removed a person's "duty to retreat" to avoid a potentially violent confrontation.

Local lawmakers disappointed with Castle Doctrine veto

Rendell also vetoed provisions dealing with Megan's Law.

York, PA - State Rep. Seth Grove said the Castle Doctrine was easily the issue he heard about most from his constituents during the past two years, and he was genuinely surprised when Gov. Ed Rendell vetoed it Saturday.

"I was very disappointed," said Grove, R-Dover Township.

Grove had been a co-sponsor of the legislation, which expands the Pennsylvania's "Castle Doctrine" -- referring to the adage that a man's home is his castle.
