Respectfully disagree. Polaris is our current North Pole star. It hasn't always been. The earth wobbles as it rotates (much like a spinning top as it slows down). This wobble is called Precession. Our North Pole star will change as the earth slowly wobbles on its axis. Right now it pointing towards Polaris. 4,500 years ago, during the building of the Egyptian pyramids, the north star was Thuban. As we slowly wobble we'll come back to Thuban (in about 20,000 years) then back to Polaris (in about 28,000 years). Other stars will become our north star as the wobble brings them in line with the polar axis.
